Meet
Marcus

A 27-year-old urban planning graduate based in Toronto, Marcus was frustrated by the daily chaos of city parking. He noticed that drivers were wasting time and fuel circling neighborhoods for available spots — and that existing city data wasn’t being used efficiently to address the issue.
But with no background in tech, no connections in product development, and no funding, Marcus didn’t know how to get started.

He had an idea:
A crowd-powered app that would notify drivers in real time when a parking spot opened up nearby.
The Genifinity Experience
“I stumbled upon Genifinity through a friend. What caught my eye was the platform's promise: ‘Your idea doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to start.’ That was exactly the nudge I needed.”
Within a few weeks of joining Genifinity:
- Marcus uploaded his concept and received valuable early feedback from other users.
- He formed a Teamup with a UI designer and a data science grad — both also looking to build their portfolios.
- Using Genifinity’s AI-powered prototyping tools and mentorship from a professional in urban mobility, he shaped a working beta version of his app.
- He earned GenCreds by hitting key milestones, which he used to access additional design and development support through the platform.
“The platform walked me through it — from shaping the pitch to understanding what an MVP even meant. Having access to a team that believed in the idea made all the difference.”
Where He Is Now
Marcus’s app, SpotOn, is now being piloted in two Toronto neighborhoods, with a small user group actively testing the experience. He’s continuing to refine the product based on real-time feedback and plans to expand to more areas in partnership with local businesses and community leaders.
“Before Genifinity, I had no idea how to move forward. Now, I’m building something that’s not only real — it’s useful.”
